Rangers Looking Forward to Playoffs
The Belmont U-15 Rangers completed their whirlwind season on Sunday, February 13th against local rivals, the St. Thomas Stars. With most people watching the Super Bowl, a surprising number of spectators filled the Joe Thornton Community Center to watch the Sunday night affair and we're treated to a competitive and spirited tilt.

The Rangers fell behind the eightball early giving up a goal to the speedy Kaleb Levesque of St. Thomas before Christian Skinner scored early in the second to tie the game. Tyler VanGorp was credited with an assist on the play. The Stars responded shortly after with a goal of their own coming from Matthew Zylstra.

Late in the second period the Rangers surrendered their 3 goal of the game, a short handed goal scored by the Stars William Reid after some careless puck management in the Rangers end.

In need of a spark to energize the Rangers, power forward Cameron Richardson outmuscled a St.Thomas defender before craftily placing the puck over the shoulder of unsuspecting Stars goalie to bring the Rangers within striking distance. Jacob Bartram was credited with an assist on the play.

In the dying minutes of the game the Rangers released fury of shots on the Stars goalie, Kienan Daley who stood on their head for most of the game. With a little more than a minute left in the third period and the Rangers shorthanded, Tyler VanGorp released a seeing eye shot that found its' way through traffic to beat Daley and tie the game for the Rangers. Cameron Richards and Gavin Hibbert (Smoothie) were credited with assists on the play.

The game would end in a 3-3 tie as Reese Thyssen shut the door and made some timely saves for the Rangers throughout the game to keep the Rangers in the contest.

With the regular season behind them and the Rangers boasting a 2-2-1 record in the last 5 games, the team feels that their game is trending in the right direction with playoffs around the corner. Stay tuned for more playoff hockey updates.
