Congratulations to Shane Harkness - U15LL
This year’s recipient of the Bill Sinclair Coach of the Year award is none other than Shane Harkness, whose dedication to coaching the U15LL team this season has been exemplary. Shane's commitment to the Belmont Minor Hockey Association (BMHA) spans over a decade, marking him as an invaluable member of our hockey family and the greater community.
From the moment his children joined BMHA, Shane has worn multiple hats – that of a parent and, notably, a non-parent coach in 2022-23. He consistently demonstrates his willingness to go above and beyond, whether it's on the ice, crafting BMHA signs, making helmet stickers, or providing support in any way possible. Shane's positivity infuses every game and practice, creating an environment where players thrive and have fun.
Shane's coaching philosophy extends far beyond the rink. He invests time in understanding each player's unique strengths, weaknesses, and personalities, serving as both a mentor and a role model. His willingness to assist other teams whenever needed further illustrates his selflessness and dedication to the sport.
Belmont is incredibly fortunate to have Shane's unwavering support not only in hockey but also in soccer and with the Lions. You can always find Shane flipping burgers, dogs, or frying fish at any community event – especially our Gatorfest fundraiser. This year, several of his U15 players joined him at this event, which is BMHA’s biggest fundraiser – thanks for being an example for your players to follow off the ice as well.
Despite his numerous contributions, Shane remains humble, never seeking recognition for his efforts. As one parent aptly stated in their nomination, "Shane goes above and beyond to support each player on the team. He encourages them to do their best and brings out the best in them."
For that, and many other reasons, BMHA proudly honors Shane Harkness as the 2023-2024 Bill Sinclair Coach of the Year. Thank you, Shane, for your outstanding service and commitment to our community.
