Ice Procedures

Allocation

All teams are given one practice slot and one game slot per week during the regular season excepting blackouts.  For Tykes only the allocated practice and game slots may be shared between the two teams.  Any regular season home game slots not in use for a game will typically revert to a practice for that team, unless needed for an alternate game or team, particularly in playoffs.

Total practice and game times will be monitored for all teams and reasonable effort will be made to ensure each team gets a fair amount of ice based on their age group and their fees.

During playoffs / playdowns every effort will be made to ensure one practice per week per team subject to scheduling requirements.  Ice allocation ends once a team is eliminated from playoffs.  One additional skate will be provided if the eliminated team so desires.

Games

Scheduling games takes precedence over all other considerations.  There are significant fines to the association for any games not played.  We will do our best to use the ice allocated to the team playing but there will be rare occasions where we must use other team's ice.

Conflict Ice

Once the regular season schedules are determined for both Shamrock and Lambton-Middlesex Local League, any conflict ice where an away game conflicts with a home slot will revert to the association.  These slots will be used to schedule games or practices for teams that are short.  They cannot be kept and traded with another team or that team may show up and find another practice or game.

Available / Open Ice

Generally, open ice not used for a game will be offered exclusively to teams missing a weekly practice or short on ice first.  This will typically be done more than two weeks before the date of the ice.  During the regular season, any ice not spoken for will then be automatically listed on the website approximately two weeks in advance for anyone who wishes to claim it.  There will be times when ice is listed but is being held pending confirmation of a game, particularly during playoffs so you must request and be approved to use the open slot even if it is listed.

Cancelling Ice

Any ice your team does not wish to use please notify the Convenor a minimum of two weeks prior to the date and the ice will revert to the association for use and it will not be counted in your teams allocation.  If notification is less than two weeks and the ice is burned it will count against your allocation.

Exhibition Games and Referees etc.

You must notify your league convenor and the ice convenor of all exhibition games so that they are included in your schedule and so the necessary arrangements can be made.  For weekend games notification must be provided by Wednesday to secure referees.  All other games minimum 3 days notice, however two weeks are required below for travel permits so please obtain the permit in advance for tentative games.

ALL exhibition games including Tryouts require Travel Permits.  Please inform the Belmont OMHA Rep two weeks in advance of any exhibition game so the the proper permit can be obtained.

Tournaments
You must notify the association and the Convenor for all Tournaments so that the tournament can be added to your schedule and any conflicts resolved.  Minimum two weeks notice.

ALL tournaments require Travel Permits.  Please inform the Belmont OMHA Rep minimum two weeks in advance of any tournament so the the proper permit can be obtained.  Most tournaments will require the permit as part of your registration so it is preferrable to obtain the permit at the time you enter the tournament.
Game Schedule Changes

For any game schedule changes required (tournament conflicts etc) you must notify the league convenor and the ice convenor so that we can contact the other association and arrange alternate dates.  As a courtesy to the other associations we expect that you will provide 2 weeks notice.  Typically 2 options are given for each reschedule so these changes tie up ice until they are sorted  and your help in providing adequate notice is appreciated.
