December Wraps Up With Silver Stick Championship
After a few tune-up games leading into the Christmas break, the boys were firing on all cylinders as they beat West Lorne 8-2,Dresden 11-2, St. Thomas 4-2 and Lambton Shores 7-1 with all seven forwards in the line-up that night registering a goal. The team party was at Cy's in Aylmer and the boys enjoyed bowling along with good food and a secret Santa exchange before it was time to tuck them in and get the real party underway at Coach Clark's.

The kids party at Cy's and the parent party at the coaches was another great example of "TEAM" building!!  The last hardest working helmet was given to Josh Beattie after the Lambton Shores game.
The first game of the Silver Stick we were teamed up to play the Lucan Irish.  The game was close until the last three minutes to play in the 3rd period.  A tough tip off our own stick proved to be the eventual game winner.  A PP goal and an empty net tally finished us off and the final was 5-2 for Lucan.  Now with our backs against the wall we needed to win our next game to stay alive.  Manager Kyle Rysdale rented the Leisure Hall for the day in Parkhill and it was awesome.  Kids played mini-sticks,built snow forts and watched a movie while the parents played cards and socialized.  Next up was West Lorne at 4:10pm.  The boys came out fast and furious led by Ben Weesjes with four goals and some great team passing that showed glimpses of NHL 13 XBox style.  Final score 8-0.  After a long day one, if was only 12 hrs later we were to meet the Rage from Platsville.  All we had to do was win to control our own destiny.  A win vs Platsville and that would send us to Sunday's semi-final.  It wasn't pretty, but we won 3-0 and a much needed day off was in store.  Sunday's semi was against Delhi Rockets.  Belmont got on the board early and didn't let up.  Delhi scored 2 late in the game, but we countered with a few of our own for a final score of 7-2 and a rematch with the Irish.  The final was anyone's game.  Belmont scored first, only with Lucan to get the equalizer 20 seconds later.  We scored another to win the period 2-1.  Unfortunately Lucan dominated for a six minute span and we came out unscathed.  Just a few more grey hairs for the parents and coaches.  From the start of the second thru to the end of the game the boys came alive and scored three more goals to put the icing on the cake and their first Silver Stick Championship!
Congratulations to William Richardson,Ben Weesjes,Logan Shannon and Cal Crinklaw for being named to the final all-star squad.  Also to Dylan Watson who was named MVP for a round robin game.  Now, the helmet was never returned and rumour has it...Beatts is wearing to the job site these days. (Could have came in handy for the mini-stick game at VDB's) Thanks to the Beatties for donating the Glass Skate to the hardest working parent at the team gatherings!!  Mrs Watson won the Christmas gathering and honourable mention to Troy for decorating the Coaches front flower bed. Thanks to The Vandenbrinks for the SS post celebration.  Skate was won by Rys for sleeping at the table!!  International Silvert Stick Finals Jan 25th-27th St Clair Shores,MI.
Helmet and skate up for grabs!! PS: $0.26 cents a can in Michigan!!
